Just a quick post to let people know of a delicious white from Croatia made from the Debit grape from the Bibich vineyard. I got the word from Ryan at Paul Marcus Wines in Rockridge (Oakland) who said it was his favorite white of the moment. I've come to trust his tastebuds after lots of casual wine talk and several good recommendations.
When I first opened the Bibich Debit 2007, I was struck with the aromas of a good vermouth at first. The wine carries the scent of mountain herbs and piquant citrus. While it was fermented in steel, it did see some months in wood and the round, oiliness of the mouth-feel is controlled and correct. On the palate, there is plenty of acidity to compliment the light wood treatment and this is really an excellent companion to a dish with some complexity to it. The herbal character makes it a little wild and distinctly non-Chardonnay. I paired this with some simple baked chicken breasts, stuffed tomatoes with plenty of garlic, and some sautéed cheddar-colored cauliflower sautéed in olive oil, onions, and garlic. Recommended.

It looks interesting however I don’t have a right Comment on this topic at this point of time

I'll see if I can get a bottle set aside for me and I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up. BTW, if you're a regular shopper, Paul Marcus is THE place for grower champagne (see my Terry Thiese Tasting notes) and also the place to buy the wonderous wines of Fontaine-gagnard for a splurge. CD

I've had the pleasure of purchasing wine from the young man Ryan at Paul Marcus for a while now. I agree with you his recommendations are excellent, he has a very good palate in my opinion. Anyway, I enjoyed the Debit 2007 today (purchased from Paul Marcus). What a wonderful wine for the price. We are truly blessed here in the Bay Area, within a 10 mile radius we have such fine wine shops as Paul Marcus, Kermit Lynch and North Berkeley Imports. By the way, Paul Marcus has an interesting looking white wine from Georgia (the country not the state), perhaps you can review it and give us your thoughts. I'll purchase a bottle tomorrow and we could exchange notes. Good evening.

Thanks for the comment, Stetson. One thing I really like about this wine is that it has just enough mineral qualities to make it very interesting on the nose without being overly stone-y, like a Savienerres, for instance. It's a very food-friendly wine. CD

It is great to hear someone praise this wine, especially so well. I am lucky enough to sell it in the LA area for Importer/ Distributor Blue Danube Wine Company and could not have said it better. For price and style it is the right wine for many a meal.
