This is a call to the other corkdorks out there that are going to the ubiquitous summer party --leave a fun bottle behind! My wife had a women's party last weekend, of savvy high-tech-types, and someone left a nice treat behind --the 2001 Lazy Creek Vineyards Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. (Trust me --the wine is way better than their website!) We had it tonight with some loin lamb chops on the grill and the first corn of the summer (corkdork style --sauteed off the cob with butter, red peppers, and Bermuda onions,) and it was such a great surprise.
Let's hear some feedback from you readers out there...when you bring a nice bottle to a party, do you really expect it to be drunk that evening if it's not expected? Are you miffed when you don't get to taste it? (usually I am!) It's such a pleasure when, as a host, you can pull a bottle and remember it was a generous gift! Send me some feedback on this...how many of you have left a nice bottle behind? What do you expect back?
Let me expound the virtues of the lovely Pinot that was left behind...the 2001 Lazy Creek Vineyards Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. I think it retails for $25.00 --about the same as the flowers she almost brought that would have been dead by now!
Color - classic Pinot coloring, with brown to clearing edges, showing it's age.
Nose - like what you experience when you open a new little carton of raspberries - hits you in the face!
Taste - dense berries and a lovely unfiltered, chewy texture. Like a classic burgundy with deep California fruit.
Repeat buy? Yup. I'm already looking for more. This is a real treat to be enjoyed for the next 2 years or so. I think it's too soft and pretty to last much longer, but it's powerful, fragrant, and lovely now.
Let's see some feedback!
