Things are well kept at the Wine House, in general, so I really think it's just not a wine that can stand 6 years of age. I have other Maltroy's that have been older, and very good, but this one was tasty-but-could-have-been-better.

Perhaps poor storage was an issue? I am always a little worried by bottles that have been in retail/wholesale warehouses for too long.

Thanks for the comments Craig. There was little of the fruit left, and it seemed like it was a little lifeless. Some of the Maltroye's last longer than others, and 6 years is a long time for something perhaps less than perfectly structured.

This was one of the last bottles at the Wine House, and it may have been on sale. Most of the time when they have white burgundy sales, the wines should be drunk within a couple of years.

Sounds like a lovely meal and the Ausone had to be wonderful. I am wondering about the 2000 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet and your comment that it was a year past its prime. I would normally guess this wine would still be on the young side of the curve. What was the problem with this bottle?
