As I mentioned in a previous post, I have always had a soft-spot for Zinfandel and I have collected Turley Zinfandels since the 1999 vintage. I have a new shipment in, so time to cull the cellar and start tasting a few! Tonight, we're making pizzas and what better accompaniment than a big Lodi Zinfandel from big zinners, Turley Wine Cellars?
Turley Zinfandel "Dogtown" Zinfandel (Lodi) 2001:
Huge nose of brambley blackberries, cloves, and cedar. The ripeness of the Lodi fruit pops out and fills the mouth with juicy berries. In a word, this is Zin at its best --explosive with fruit and acid backbone. Highly recommended now, but it's good for a few more years for the same drinking pleasure. Lodi doesn't get any better. Now around US$80.
